Microsoft beat Johnson & Johnson for the first time in seven years. (And, Comcast was one that fell at the bottom of the list of 60 companies.) What drove Microsoft to the top? Leadership, financial results and Bill Gates’ philanthropy, which has been admired by many and boosted the reputation of the company he founded.

I was just listening to examples of this in NY this past week. I heard from a wonderful woman business owner whose own involvement in the community, providing scrap materials from her business to other community businesses, and separately participating in local recycling programs, has helped her gain a lot of third party credibility, and new business. Publicity generated has helped her connect with resources formerly unknown and grow the business.
