Looks like the entry-level skill set bar is being raised...
Have you heard of the National Work Readiness Credential ("NWRC")? It's based on employer-defined standards of critical skills that entry-level workers need in different fields. This is something you may want to consider if you are shifting to a new career or entering a new field. The credential can be attained by taking a computer based assessment of skills in areas such as negotiation, decision making, communication, conflict resolution, analytical thinking and problem solving.
Reported in the WSJ - "The credential is relevant for a wide range of job seekers," says Joe Mizereck, executive director of the National Work Readiness Council, the organization overseeing the credential's implementation. For instance, "highly educated individuals who were trained overseas might leverage it as a tool to prove themselves to American employers."
